Natalia Gómez Solano

Special Adviser on Youth to the EU

Natalia Gómez Solano is a 25-year-old environmental engineer specialised in climate adaptation, risk reduction, and participatory processes for equitable, just and sustainable development. She is currently starting a Masters Degree in International Land and Water Management at Wageningen University and Research. Natalia has collaborated in climate action and youth participation advocacy for example by co-founding and chairing until 2022 the Costa Rican Youth and Climate Change Network, and also by co-chairing the NDC Partnership Youth Task Force for the development of a Youth Engagement Plan in 2020. Currently, Ms Gómez Solano is member of the Global Center on Adaptation Youth Advisory Panel and of the Youth Committee for Disaster Risk Reduction of the Americas and the Caribbean. She participates in a local advocacy group and collaborates with the Costa Rican NGO La Ruta del Clima on climate action advocacy and research, and with the United Nations Environment Programme on climate adaptation planning.

Panel 'Democracy in action: youth driving innovative engagement'

This session will bring together dynamic young leaders, advocates, and activists to discuss and showcase how youth-led initiatives are playing a pivotal role in shaping democratic engagement through innovative projects. The session will inspire attendees with concrete examples of advocacy work led by youth cohort members who have received advocacy grants, demonstrating the impact of their efforts in driving democratic change.
