Come join us to celebrate our annual event commemorating the International Day of Democracy, which will take place on Tuesday, 18 September 2018 at the European Parliament in Brussels.
This year we will focus on EU leadership for democracy, its internal and external dimensions, as well as the challenges facing democracies today. The morning sessions will be followed by workshops that among other topics cover leadership in relation to technological innovation and its impact on democracy, advancing democracy through female leadership, and engagement for democracy.
It's the end of #IDDBrussels's International Session! We'd like to thank speakers @RanaAyyub, @CKokkinakis, Imad Daimi, David Salvo, @j_pomianowski, @YoungsRichard, moderator @shada_islam & the public.

"Tunisian democracy had the quickest improvement in North Africa. But now it's showing its fragility and what we had built is slowly being destroyed. Civil society has to adapt to a new, riskier environment and to people's changing needs." Imad Daimi of @Raqabah. #IDDBrussels
"Russia is interfering in the West to make democracy look bad in democratic countries. But at the same time we cannot blame outsiders for every problem in our democracy. Is not just Russia or China, it’s us." David Salvo of @SecureDemocracy (@gmfus)
"Basic fundamental rights do not belong to a specific country or to the European Union only, they belong to all human beings." @CKokkinakis, Deputy Managing Director at @eu_eeas #IDDBrussels
"What is happening in Ukraine will have a strong impact on the future of democracy worldwide. However, it is local, small-scale developments and factors that will be crucial to build, sustain, and maintain democracy," says @YoungsRichard of @Carnegie_Europe. #IDDBrussels
"The fight for democracy can only come from within, it is above all about people being able to organize themselves." says @EEDemocracy executive director @j_pomianowski at #IDDBrussels.
